Statement
ANC VETERANS LEAGUE EXPRESSES CONCERN AT RECENT DEVELOPMENTS CONCERNING THE GAUTENG PROVINCE CABINET.
- 05 April 2026
The ANC Veterans League was dismayed to learn this week about the appointment of the EFF Provincial Leader, Mr Nkululeko Dunga to the position of MEC for Finance in Gauteng together with the reshuffling of the Gauteng Executive Council by the Premier, Cde Panyaza Lesufi.
The Premier of Gauteng is entrusting a R179 billion into the hands of Dunga, who was relieved of his position in Ekurhuleni after allegations of poor financial performance and non-compliance.
These moves bring no comfort to the residents of Gauteng who expect their leadership to prioritise service delivery and stability.
The ANC Veterans’ League believes that coalition arrangements should be guided by the strategic framework for municipal coalitions approved by the ANC NEC in April 2023. This document states that “we must ensure that any coalition we are part of must be based on certain principles that must put the interests of the people first – a stable government with a minimum programme that can improve service delivery and push forward the transformation agenda”.
After holding a Special ANC VL NWC meeting, the Veterans’ League will be pursuing this matter in the ANC since we are determined to ensure that those who hold senior positions in government are ethical, incorruptible and there to serve the people.
END.
