ANC Veterans League extends condolences to the association of combatants of the National Liberation struggle in Mocambique on the passing away of its Secretary General, Fernando Faustino

The ANC Veterans League was saddened to hear of the passing away of the Secretary General of our sister league, Fernando Faustino, on Saturday, November 23rd, in a South African hospital. He had suffered a stroke a few weeks ago.

We extend our condolences to the family, colleagues, and comrades of Cde Faustino, who, at the time of his passing, served for the third term as Secretary General. In that capacity, he sat on Frelimo’s Political Commission and was also the Mozambican Hydrocarbon Company (CMH) administrator.

He has a long history as a Frelimo cadre, joining at a very young age and receiving secondary education at a Frelimo school in Tanzania. After receiving political-military training, he participated in various tasks in the liberated areas of Cabo Delgado.

The Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle (ACLLN) plays a similar role in Mocambique to that of the Veteran’s League in South Africa. As the Secretary General he sat on the Frelimo Political Commission, similar to the National Working Committee of the ANC.

Thus, we can understand the loss that the ACLLN has suffered at a critical point in Mocambique’s history. Veterans of our struggle have an important role to play in providing leadership and guidance to the next generations.

To the ACLLN, we say that we hope his guidance and wisdom will be remembered as you navigate the road ahead.
